Co-laboratory
During the ViCCA studies at Aalto University (2017-2019), Maria’s core interest was developing experimental and art-based practices and learning environments. She was invested in bridging the gap between critical theory and artistic practice, and mobilizing spaces for dialogue and collaboration between art practitioners and professionals of different backgrounds.
Early on in the MA studies, she proposed to create a group platform with seven people from the MA program dedicated to pedagogical and artistic experimentation with participatory methods. It was called the Co-laboratory to emphasize peer-learning and the reflection on the role interaction plays in artistic and research processes. Maria coordinated the weekly sessions held over one year (2017-2018), and supported artists in their role as facilitators. From the reflections and learning of this process she formulated the practical component of her MA research.
